Eyeliner is used for highlighting different features of the eyes as well as a tool to create various looks. Eyeliner is normally used in an everyday makeup routine to create smaller or wider eye look or to define the eye. Its main function is to make the lashes look lush, but it can also enhance or change the eye’s shape and it draws attention to the eye. Eyeliner can be used on the waterlines of your eyes and above upper lashes or below lower lashes or both. There are different shades of eyeliner, from the common black, grey and brown to more bold shades such as bright primary colors, frosty silvers, pastels and white, golds and even glitter-flecked colors.
Types of Eye Liners
Although there are many different types of eyeliners main three types of eyeliners are:
- Pencil Eyeliner
- Liquid Eyeliner
- Gel Eyeliner
Pencil eyeliner is usually the first one we all started out with. It’s mostly used to create a smoky look and to line the water line. For a beginner, pencil eyeliner is the best choice
This type of eyeliner is best for precise application. Liquid eyeliners come in two types of packaging, a marker type pen with a felt tip, and a tiny vial-like bottle with an enormously precise and fine dipping brush. Liquid liner marker pens are very easy to use. Vial and brush liquid liner require some practice.
Although gel eyeliner may seem threatening at first, it’s best for the ones who want to make cat eyes. You will need a brush to use gel eyeliner as it normally comes in pots.
Choosing a Liner
For a perfect makeup, one should use the right eyeliner. Choosing the right eyeliner may be difficult. Pencil eyeliners are easy to apply and are best for the subtle natural look, or for smudged looks to create dramatic or smoky eyes. For best results, you will need to occasionally sharpen your pencil. It also won’t spread into your eyes as liquid liners can.
Liquid liners are used to create swooping lines and give smooth and a precise look. To apply liquid liner, you simply draw on your lines and use a second application of a liner to fill in any gaps. A wide range of lines can be drawn from the liquid liner, from natural, thin lines to dramatic looks.
To draw dramatic lines one should use a gel liner. An angled brush works best for applying the gel liner but other brushes can be used with gel liner. Its thicker formula looks immense for dramatic looks like wings and cat eyes. Always be sure to clean the brush frequently to help prevent eye infections.
